On 27th of November 2012 in London Barka UK held “Trading Company Workshop” run by Val Jones who is CEO of Social Enterprise North West. The meeting was attended by Barka UK management: Bernadette Cassidy and Ewa Sadowska and all employees working in Social Economy Centre, Reconnection, Helpline and Leonardo Mobility project.
Val Jones started with presentation of SENW (Social Enterprise North West) and confirmed their mission to provide a strong voice for the social enterprise sector and strengthen the social economy in North West, by working collaboratively with existing social enterprise networks and agencies to deliver a coordinated strategy, driven by the sector itself. There were also outlined core values, structure and characteristics of social enterprise which is a business with primarily social objectives whose surpluses are principally reinvested for that purpose in the business or community.
All Barka UK representatives learned major benefits to set up social enterprise, how to paint a picture of mission, vision, aims and objectives. Also we were told about all possible options for Barka UK trading entity including sample of SWOT analysis for construction company which may be an interest of Barka UK activity in the near future.
There were numbers of other successful social enterprises and projects mentioned by Val Jones which may be a model samples to follow by Barka UK.
At the end of the workshop we had discussion about future plans and action plan for Barka UK social enterprise to set up.
