Training of the candidates to the Social Economy Centre

On March 15th the seven-person group of candidates to work in the Social Economy Centre in London started a three-week training session in Barka Foundation and the Barka Cooperation Network in Poland.

The group has visited, among others, the social cooperatives and social enterprises of the Barka Network as well as the Local Partnerships developed by Barka in Poland’s Regions. The group participated in an International Conference in Poznan on social enterprises and recycling and took part in a two-day study trip to Berlin to visit German migrants’ support programmes. The training in Poland will end on the 1st of April.

Barka meets with President of the European Parliament

On January 27th 2010 there have been commemorations in Poland on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp attended by representatives of Governments, Parliaments, European organisations and MEPs. At the event President of the European Parliament, Professor Jerzy Buzek announced a declaration in which he invites the previous Presidents of European Parliament and representatives of citizens’ organisations and movements to join him in the setting up the Pro Publico Bono Forum €œEuropeans€™ Solidarity for Human Rights.

Leaders of European organisations, including Barka UK and Barka Foundation in Poznan, prepared a letter of support to the President’s initiative (attached). The letter was presented to Mr President on the 7th of March in Poznan, Poland.
