Barka meets with President of the European Parliament

On January 27th 2010 there have been commemorations in Poland on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp attended by representatives of Governments, Parliaments, European organisations and MEPs.  At the event President of the European Parliament, Professor Jerzy Buzek announced a declaration in which he invites the previous Presidents of European Parliament and representatives of citizens’ organisations and movements to join him in the setting up the Pro Publico Bono Forum “Europeans’ Solidarity for Human Rights”.

Leaders of European organisations, including Barka UK and Barka Foundation in Poznan, prepared a letter of support to the President’s initiative (attached). The letter was presented to Mr President on the 7th of March in Poznan, Poland.

Barka in TVP Polonia

Tomasz Sadowski – the Chairman of the Barka Foundation in Poland took part in the TV broadcast on Polonia chanel. Social Economy Centre

Barka UK opens an innovative Social Economy Centre in London. The Centre will support the citizens of the Central and Eastern European countries who face difficulties in obtaining and maintaining work.

We are searching for people with a university degree and at least two-year experience in rehabilitation and addictions: a psychologist, a therapist, a lawyer, a professional advisor and an advisor for business development.

The psychologist will provide advice and assistance in solving problems and psychological crises, work on strengthening the motivation and assertiveness, assist with the creation of support groups, work closely with the professional advisor and  the therapist to agree on career paths of the Social Economy Centre’s clients.

The professional advisor will make diagnosis of the clients’ social and professional potential, cooperate with employment agencies, businesses (including social enterprises) in order to develop a professional practice/ employment and offer guidance on all matters of employment nature.

The advisor on business development will gather information on companies and local businesses (including social enterprises), present available job offers, visit employers with the aim to prepare a timetable/ apprenticeship contracts and monitor the situation in the local labour market. He/she will also build a relationship between an employer and a member of the Social Economy Centre, help to create business plans and encourage the clients to set up their own companies.

The therapist will work on one-to-one basis and in a group towards rehabilitation and sobriety, cooperate with institutions offering detox, therapy and rehabilitation, create support groups, AA and NA.

The lawyer will work on one-to-one basis and in a group, provide assistance to solve legal issues primarily in relation employer – employee (including interventions) and focus on legal aspects of family matters. The role will involve cooperation with the courts, London Probation and detention centres. The lawyer will also offer legal aid within the housing  and entrepreneurial area (including interventions).

Barka UK otwiera  innowacyjne Centrum Ekonomii Społecznej (Social Economy Centre) w Londynie. Centrum CES będzie towarzyszyło obywatelom krajów Europy Środkowo-Wschodniej napotykającym na trudności w pozyskaniu i utrzymaniu pracy.

Poszukujemy osób z wyższym wykształceniem oraz co najmniej dwu-letnim doświadczeniem z zakresu resocjalizacji, rehabilitacji i uzależnień: psycholog, terapeuta oraz prawnik, doradca zawodowy, doradca ds. rozwoju przedsiębiorczości.

Psycholog: doradztwo i pomoc w rozwiązywaniu problemów i kryzysów psychicznych, praca nad wzmocnieniem motywacji i asertywności, pomoc w tworzeniu grup wsparcia, bliska współpraca z doradcą zawodowym i terapeutą w celu uzgodnienia ścieżki rozwoju zawodowego uczestnika CES.

Doradca zawodowy: diagnoza potencjału społecznego i zawodowego uczestnika CES, współpraca z agencjami zatrudnienia, przedsiębiorstwami (w tym przedsiębiorstwami społecznymi) w celu przygotowania praktyk zawodowych/zatrudnienia, szeroko pojęte doradztwo zawodowe.

Doradca ds. rozwoju przedsiębiorczości: zbieranie informacji na temat firm i lokalnych przedsiębiorstw (w tym przedsiębiorstw społecznych), prezentacja dostępnych ofert pracy, wizyty u pracodawców, przygotowanie harmonogramu/umów praktyk zawodowych, monitoring sytuacji lokalnego rynku pracy, budowanie relacji pomiędzy pracodawcą a uczestnikiem CES, pomoc w tworzeniu bizes planów i zakładaniu własnej działalności gospodarczej.

Terapeuta: praca indywidualna i grupowa w kierunku rehabilitacji i trzeźwości, współpraca z placówkami detoksu,  terapii i rehabilitacji, tworzenie grup wsparcia AA i NA.
Prawnik: praca indywidualna i grupowa, wspieranie (w tym interwencje) w rozwiązywaniu kwestii prawnych głównie w relacji pracodawca – pracownik, podejmowanie aspektów prawnych w sprawach rodzinnych, współpraca z sądami, kuratorami sądowymi, aresztami śledczymi, pomoc prawna (w tym interwencje) z zakresu mieszkalnictwa i przedsiębiorczości.

Seminar “Human Rights in the civilization of solidarity” organized by the President of European Parliament professor Jerzy Buzek, 27 – 28 of January 2010

During 27 – 28 of January 2010, representatives of Barka UK took part in a seminar “Human Rights in the civilization of solidarity” organized by the President of European Parliament professor Jerzy Buzek. The seminar took place in Oświęcim and Cracow for the occasion of the 65th anniversary of liberation of Auschwitz concentration camp. The meeting was attended by MEPs and intellectuals from across Europe including Professor Andre Gluksmann of Paris, Stefan Wikanowicz, Professor Jerzy Kłoczowski to name a few. 

The most important result of the seminar was the establishment of “Citizens for European Solidarity” Forum initiated and announced by the President of European Parliament – professor Jerzy Buzek.  

Please see attached ( Conferences ) the Statement by the President of the European Parliament, Prof. Jerzy Buzek, in Oświęcim on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz–Birkenau camp.

Barka UK was invited by the President of European Parliament to become a member of the Forum.

Social Economy Center in East London

Barka UK, in patnership with Providence Row, will open a model Social Economy Center for Eastern European nationals in East London. The Center will be patterned after integration&employment centres which Barka Network has been sucessfully developing in Poland for the last 20 years.
The Center will assist Eastern European nationals, who experience difficulties in the UK job market, to gain and maintain employment.

The Center will funded by the UK Central Government, Corporation of the City of London, London Borough of Tower Hamlets and the Oak Foundation.The Center will start working in April 2010.
